WHOLESALE MARKETS
PRESS RELEASE
A difficult decision was taken on 14th December 2010 to close the day to day packing of potatoes at Pengethley, this was due to a very large reduction of packing potatoes within Herefordshire.
Since 2007 when heavy floods hit the area growers have looked carefully at their business and decided the risk of going for the free market is too high, therefore switched their growing to processing potatoes which are backed by contracts.
Gamber has set up a growers group and nowadays are proud to manage the supply of 100% into Tyrell's Crisps along with other crisp contracts.
We are still washing some material for customers who are willing to order large amounts of material in order to make it viable to run the packhouse.
All the original machinery is still in place therefore3 if customers do require bakers, mids, pre-packs and loose washed potatoes and the volumes and price are sensible we are able to supply.
The dry bagging side of the business along with the split grading and bulk washing is still an important part of the business and a service we continue to offer.
